This is an old blog that I started in 2006. I keep it because it has a lot of historical data and people still come here. As of September 2016, no new updates will be made here. All new blog posts and writing/publishing related news will be posted over on my new site at

Speaking Topic: Vital Signs When Seeking An Agent

Jennifer shares lessons she's learned from the three agents she's had and how their role in the publishing industry has changed and continues to evolve. She will share resources on where to find an agent, how to approach an agent, and how to pitch to an agent in face-to-face consultations at writing conferences. Each agency is different and so are their submission requirements. She will discuss the submission process, industry standards, and taboos to avoid. There are lots of people claiming to be agents who do not have the connections to editors they claim, are charging crazy fees, have unethical practices, and Jennifer will share vital signs to look for when seeking an agent.
