This workshop covers the basics of how the publishing industry works, including writing query letters, preparing proposals for agents and editors, the dreaded synopsis, types of responses to expect, length of waiting time, contract negotiations, and marketing oneself. Since the publishing agency has changed significantly in the last few years, we will discuss the realistic advantages and disadvantages of traditional publishing, self-publishing, print books, e-books and the new hybrid author. We will also compare large publishers to small publishers and how the roles have changes for authors, agents, publicists, editors and agents. This will be a candid discussion and will include lots of info sharing. The amount of material will depend on the length of time we have available.
